I’m going to tell you something that you may not want to hear…

If want to make a change in your life or in your relationship,

If you really want to grow your business,

If you want to get unstuck,

If you want to remove the blocks,

If you really desire to live the life you want to live,

 

You have to GET UNCOMFORTABLE!

 

And getting uncomfortable requires ACTION.

 

You have to step out of your comfort zone and do something that may seem quite scary; however, those are things that create change and growth.

This may not apply to everyone, but MANY of you, if you are truly honest with yourself, are already living with some discomfort. Meaning, there are parts of your life that you’re not at all happy with, but it seems easier just to live in the “comfortable discomfort” than to step outside of your comfort zone and change the damn thing.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not lecturing you because I did this for a long time.

I would constantly feel anxious about making enough money or having the impact in the world that I wanted to have, yet, I wasn’t really doing anything to significantly change that feeling. I was just living with my comfortable discomfort.

Finally, I got tired of that and knew that I had to step outside of my comfort zone and choose to GET UNCOMFORTABLE.

And that required ACTION.

It is the the lack of action, the lack of decision making, and the hemming and hawing that gets us completely stuck in our comfortable discomfort.

So, I got uncomfortable by:

  Getting on Facebook Lives. SCARY.

  Doing more speaking gigs. SCARY.

  Investing a substantial amount of money in myself by hiring a coach who I knew could take me to the next level. SUPER SCARY.

All of those things freaked me out, but making the decision and taking the leap was so satisfying and rewarding! It may have been scary, but it was far better than living in my comfortable discomfort.

So first, I want to consider if there are places in your life in which you are living in comfortable discomfort. My guess is that there is at least one.

Then, I want you to consider one small action that you can take to change that. My guess it that the remedy may be uncomfortable, but again, most importantly the remedy is the action.

The action can be ANYTHING…trying something new, sending an email, saying yes, saying no, ending a relationship, getting on Facebook live, making a phone call, speaking in front of a group, investing money you may not have to get support, building a website, speaking up about something you believe in, making a commitment to eat healthy or go to the gym, moving, changing friends, or asking for help.

Then, I want you to use Mel Robbins’ 5 second rule which says, “If you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move (act) within 5 seconds or your brain (ego) will kill the idea.”

And I know you have experienced that before because we have all talked ourselves out of doing something outside of our comfort zone in a matter of seconds!

So, count to 5 and JUST DO IT! Whatever your “it ” is.

  1. This is so true Kerry, I love this. There are a million things I need to take action on but one thing at a time. I’ve been wanting to start a blog for some time now. As soon as I have the idea within minutes I have 500 reasons that come into my head and talk me out of it. I don’t know why, it’s free, I can do it just for me and not anyone else so I don’t have to worry about being a pro blogger. I worry so much about what other people think that it stops me from taking action. That and being so overwhelmed with all that needs to be done. So I’m starting a blog, it’s going to be super embarrassing but I’m going to start taking action today…now!

    • I LOVE that you want to start a blog!! You will write an amazing blog.
      I think that worrying about what others think is probably one of the #1 things that stop people from doing things they really want to. What I have found is that the more you do what YOU LOVE to do, the less you give a shit about what others think. I fully support you writing a blog. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. One thing I will recommend that you find helpful is to have an accountability partner or be in a community that can help hold your feet to the fire. It’s really easy to hide when we are on our own. That’s why it’s so awesome and courageous that you wrote this here! 🙂

      In terms of the overwhelm, just pick 2 or 3 of the top things you want to do and start there.
