I am about to ask you an important, possibly a life changing question…and I want you to be honest…


Are you living your life by default or are you living your life with INTENTION?


I had a huge Aha Moment on the last day of September!!

I woke up really early that morning still feeling a bit off after being totally grumpy the night before.

I decided to take a walk down to the beach  – I was in Vila Nova de Milfontes, Portugal – and take some alone time. I brought my journal along. I found a quiet spot overlooking the river, the sun was still low in the sky, the water was like glass. The small fishing boats were resting quietly on the surface of the bluish-green water.

I sat and wrote in my journal and then returned to my meditation practice. I had somehow lost my practice since I had been gone. When I opened my eyes I felt amazing and the world looked different.


It was in that moment that I had an epiphany.

Just because I am on vacation, doesn’t mean that I have a hall pass. I still have to start my day with intention. I had slid back into living life by default without even realizing it.


And, you don’t just need to be on vacation for this to potentially happen. It’s so easy! You get busy, your kids are screaming for you, you’re behind on emails, you have an early work meeting, and ON AND ON!

Are you beginning to get my drift?

So, take a moment to think about this… What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

For example, do you hop on your computer and read your email? Look at Facebook? Make your kid’s breakfast? Watch the news? Go for a run? Meditate?

Be honest!

I am asking because the first thing you do will trigger a thought and that thought will trigger an emotion and that emotion will begin to set the tone for the day and the lens through which you see your day and that will set the tone for what you attract.

Like attracts like…

The better it gets, the better it gets. The worse it gets, the worse it gets.

So, it is IMPERATIVE that you start your day with intention rather than by default.

That morning when I woke up, I was beating myself up for being grumpy while I’m on this f’ing AMAZING vacation. I mean, what do I have to be grumpy about? I am so fortunate.

However, I was NOT starting my day with intention. I was waking up and getting on email and Facebook immediately, so that I could get my work done while the others were still sleeping.

And that, my friends, set the tone for my day.

So, even though I am on this amazing vacation, I still need to start my day in a way that gets me into a high emotional frequency. Basically, something that will make me feel happy! Don’t get me wrong, I love my work and what I do; however, if I meditate or exercise before I do my work then I am so much more in the flow.

That morning, I left my sweet little mediation spot feeling like I was floating, and because of that, the rest of the day was magical.

Since that morning, I have not started my day with email and Facebook. I have returned to my mediation practice, affirmations, and appreciations to start my day, and what a difference that has made!

When you live with intention…

You CHOOSE the first thing you do in the morning which then allows you to CHOOSE the first thought you have which then allows you to CHOOSE the first emotion you have which sets the tone for your day and what you CHOOSE to attract.

It’s simple, but you have to be intentional.

So, here are 10 suggestions to set yourself up for a high vibe day!

  1. Meditation
  2. Read something uplifting
  3. Watch something uplifting (YouTube has 1000’s of videos!)
  4. Visualization
  5. Play with your animal(s)
  6. MOVE your body
  7. Write at least 100 things you’re grateful for
  8. Write / Journal
  9. Go into nature
  10. Listen to music

Again, there are so many more that can be added to this list. Find something that works for you.


The point is, START YOUR DAY WITH INTENTION NO MATTER WHAT! It’s easy to come up with a million excuses not to, but DON’T!
