Calling all Perfectionists!
In this episode I share why it’s important to strive for progress over perfection.
Does your perfectionist part slow you down? Does she keep you from getting things done? Does she cause you to procrastinate? Does she cause you to lose connection to Source?
If you said yes to any of those, then this is a great episode for you!

I have been a perfectionist for most of my life. I mean, I was the kid who came home from school and rewrote my notes if I deemed them messy. I was the kid who color-coded my closet. My room was perfectly organized. I received straight A’s.
I am actually very fond of my perfectionist for a number of reasons. In fact, if you are a perfectionist you can most likely relate to some of what I’m about to say.
I love that I do things really well. I love that I’m extremely thorough. I love that I put my heart and soul into everything I like to do. I love that people can count on me to get things done, and that they have no doubt that it’s going to be done to the very best of my ability. I love that I have high standards.
Now, all of that is hunky-dory; however, like any quality, there is a shadow side.
I often take longer than I believe is necessary to finish a project because I don’t want to put it out to the world until it’s “perfect.” The perfectionist part causes me to procrastinate on occasion. Sometimes I don’t want to try something new because I want to be the best at it immediately. She elicits my serious side. And, when I’m fully in my perfectionist part, I lose connection to my heart and to Source.
What I know is that the shadow side is just trying to keep me safe from possible rejection, criticism and failure. My perfectionist isn’t fond of any of those things.
Well, here’s the deal. This is what I find helps to quiet my perfectionist. I tell her that I love her. I tell her that she’s safe even if something isn’t ‘perfect.’ I tell her she’ll be fine even if someone criticizes or rejects her. And most importantly, I tell her that no one is attracted to perfection.
People are attracted to my perfectly imperfect self who is TOTALLY AUTHENTIC.
I am now continuously stepping outside of my perfectionist comfort zone because the message I want to share is far more important to me than getting on a facebook live and worrying that I’m going to stumble on a word because that’s not what people care about anyway!
Because I am so connected with my mission, vision, and heart’s desire, painting the plane while it’s flying is becoming far more satisfying than waiting for perfection. In the words of Mark Twain, “continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection.”
